Christmas is almost here. And as you look around you can see many hapless souls scrambling about trying to get those last minute gifts. Hey, maybe you’re one of them… or maybe you’re not. Well, wherever you fall on the gift-giving spectrum, there’s one gift that you might want to consider: your voice.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a pro or a “pro wannabe”, giving your voice as a gift is not only a great way to spread joy during this holiday season, but also a fantastic way to practice (if you are a beginner to voice acting or are a pro who’s just going through a slow work period.)
Just like many of you, I’m home for the holidays; visiting my parents and meeting my two new nieces for the first time. In preparation for this, I recorded 2 audiobooks for my nieces (The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back). I added some background music and even sprinkled some sound effects in a few, but appropriate, places.
Long story short: my nieces LOVED them! 
(And so did my brother and his wife.)
And so, as Christmas approaches, why not make something extra-special for family, friends, coworkers, or whomever you know?
Here are some ideas:
- An audiobook read
- A short comedy routine using your character voices
- Singing Christmas carols or a favorite song in a humorous voice (assuming, of course, that you can actually sing — which I can’t).
- Volunteer to read books to the elderly
- Volunteer to read children’s books at your local library
Let your imagination wander and I know that you can come up with a special voice-over gift for a special person (or people) in and around your life.

I know. I know. There are some people in this world who judge the value of a gift by the price on the price-tag. But let’s not worry about them, shall we? As I always say, “Do your best to spread good cheer and let the opinions fall where they may.”
